About Steve Koppel

Before taking up photography, Steve spent 20 years as a Senior Partner and business consultant with Accenture, leaving in 2002 to volunteer with non-profit organizations to help maximize their social impact. Steve is a Trustee at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and has served in numerous volunteer strategy roles at other Boston-area healthcare organizations. Locally, Steve serves on the Board of the Association to Preserve Cape Cod.

A graduate of Brown University, Steve is the founder of the non-profit EDI Institute. This non-profit promotes healing and resilience for patients and caregivers through imagery created on mobile devices. Steve’s TEDx talk on Expressive Digital Imagery (EDI) can be viewed Here. Steve is a frequent speaker at conferences and camera clubs and conducts retreats on Cape Cod focused on imagery as a form of self-expression with an emphasis on the overall photographic experience. Steve’s photography is on the walls of several Boston area hospitals and businesses, including Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Massachusetts General Hospital, and The Flatley Company.

About Expressions gallery

The EXPRESSIONS Gallery, located on Cape Cod in Chatham Center at 578 Main St., showcases Steven Koppel's coastal photography and serves as headquarters for the EDI Institute. This gallery embodies much of what Steve is passionate about, providing opportunities to witness:

  • Expressions of Steve’s experiences on the tidal flats and beaches of Cape Cod

  • Expressions of the beauty of Cape Cod’s natural resources and the importance of their preservation and protection

  • Expressions of healing and resilience through the work of the EDI Institute

EXPRESSIONS Gallery is also home to Steve’s retreats and seminars, a venue for educational programs focused on photography and the environment, and where photographers enrolled in Steve’s mentorship program can exhibit their work. All images on this site's “Featured EXPRESSIONS” page can be viewed in person at the gallery, and all others can be ordered in custom sizes. Some EXPRESSIONS Gallery sales are donated to the EDI Institute and the Association to Preserve Cape Cod.
