Hotel Installation

Hotel Commonwealth, Boston MA.

Stephen has had a relationship with the Hotel and the restaurants at the Hotel Commonwealth for 15 years. Sheffield and his wife have designed and decorated the hotel bar which included his own art and many other local artists work.

For this installation, they approached Sheffield with the idea of hanging art in 5 large elevators and discussed how that would look. The Hotel proposed that he could curate a small “gallery experience” in each elevator. The day of our scheduled installation in March was cancelled because of the pandemic because of the hotel being temporarily closed. In early July the hotel began preparing to open and Sheffield was given the green light to go. In order to be as safe as possible Sheffield did the installation by himself taking all necessary precautions. The hotel did their part by cleaning and prepping the spaces per his requirements and leaving him to work. The work is installed with industrial double-stick tape. Sheffield has had years of experience with this type of tape and has work in restaurants from 10 or more years that have worked without a hitch.
