In Search of Arcadia By Marcin Owczarek
May 19, 2022 - Jun 23, 2022 • 241 Royal St, New Orleans, LA 70130
The art of Owczarek is dedicated to the relationship between Man, Animals and Nature. He focuses on animal rights, wildlife conservation, climate change and the condition of our fragile Planet.
Owczarek is fascinated with the influence of new technologies on human life, particularly within urban space. Focusing on the issues of mechanization and standardization, he tackles them in an antiutopian style. This is reinforced by Owczarek's interest in shamanism, Gnosticism and alchemy. His work is rooted in his interpretation of the content of the ‘Tibetan Book of the Dead’ as well as his studies in cultural anthropology.
“Forest is one of the most important symbols present in myths and legends. Mysterious, whispering, full of twilight and shadows, symbolizing wisdom, reflection, meditation, memory, escapism as well as the source of magical power.
Wandering in the forest is a cognitive process, an attempt to reveal the secrets of the world represented by animals and nature. Confrontation with the dark and light forces of the other worlds that surround us and our senses, fears, excitement and joy. Forest is alive, when we go into the forest trying to embrace and tame its secrets with our eyes and senses, we come back with stories repeated by the fire, sometimes in a whisper, not to summon the creatures that inhabit it.”

About Marcin Owczarek
Marcin Owczarek (born 1985) studied at the College of Photography in Wroclaw, graduating with an honorable mention for his cycle Brave New World, which presented an idiosyncratic version of a future world. Currently, Marcin Owczarek lives and works in Belgium.
“My art has always focused on the condition of our globe and the condition of man. I use photography and collage to create surreal images that are thematically focused on identity, dreams, new technologies, bio-science, the unconscious, morals, social situations, behaviors, habits, rituals, biological changes, depression in urban environments- which have significant impact on human life. To observe. To document. As a result, I create the image of the 21 century and the image of our current society filled with allusions, metaphors, allegories.
By using various symbols and depth of meaning intentionally, I want my art to be interpreted on many levels. Therefore you can also notice that there are many smaller images in one image I finish. This subtle meaning tells you – you can open as many doors as you want and interpret my collages day after day in different way. Possibilities are endless.”

About Angela King
Angela is a California native but after 42 years considers New Orleans home. She has a large family there (she's 7th born of 12) so California is always a vacation destination for her.
Adventure moved her to New Orleans in 1977. Her love of art and creative spirit guided her into the art world in the late 70's. She moved to NOLA to open a California craft gallery in 1977 that evolved into an art gallery by 1983, shifting to original paintings when she became a partner in '93. She then continued until 2006 when she started her own gallery post Katrina.
Now 13 years later, the Angela King Gallery has grown to include a beautiful second gallery space called Evolve, on the second floor. With a separate entrance on Bienville Street, she hopes to make the space available for private and public events. Having longterm friendships and honest relationships with her gallery team and her artists have been the foundation of her success.
