2018 IPA BEST OF SHOW OPENING EXHIBITION IN NEW YORK CITY!

The Lucie Awards Gala was the culmination of a weeklong celebration of photography. It included the opening of IPA’s 2018 “Best of Show” Exhibition, which features a curated selection of winning images from the 2018 IPA Photography Awards. Respected educator and contemporary photography specialist Catherine Edelman curated the Exhibition, sponsored by ChromaLuxe and Blazing Editions and hosted by Splashlight Studios in New York City. The Exhibition will be shown in at least 15 cities worldwide during the coming year, including Tokyo, Taipei, Moscow, Paris, Los Angeles, Bangkok, and Manila.

“I didn’t have a computer when I first opened the gallery. Artists submitted slides I held to the light, occasionally placing them on a lightbox. FedEx was my means of fast communication, and bookstores were where I went to see new work. Much has changed in 31 years. Today, dealers, collectors, and curators can sit at home in their pajamas and scour through thousands of photographs uploaded every minute to Instagram and Facebook. The process can be overwhelming… and occasionally rewarding.

I’ve been asked to jury many awards and love the process. I see work I would typically never see from across the globe. Submissions to the Lucie Awards offered access to all types of photography, from commercial to photojournalism to fine art storytelling. My interest tends to go towards images telling a story or asking questions. Photography has the unique ability to effect change, which is what I look for when reviewing portfolios or award submissions. I greatly respect the photographers who shared their work and congratulate those recognized for their vision.”
