Innovation In Presentation
Exhibition
Art has always maintained a close relationship with technology. This inextricable connection is a natural one; as times change, so do the ways in which we express ourselves. This evolution is most evident in photography and its presentation. The transformation has been dramatic, from the early days of recording images on treated paper to the present, where pressure and heat turn ink into gases that solidify when cooled to create a lasting image. Today, photographs have become an essential part of our lives, and capturing and exhibiting images has become pivotal in contemporary society.
Early innovators utilized chemistry to discover how to "fix" an image on various surfaces, including paper, glass, or tin. This foundational idea has persisted throughout the history of photography, leading to a continual reinvention of the medium and showcasing its malleability in finding new forms of presentation. Today, the sublimated aluminum printing method uses the world's most essential metal to preserve some of the most iconic images captured in history. The materials employed in a photograph's production can significantly alter its appearance, and sublimation can enhance the color spectrum and definition of an image.
From daguerreotypes to photograms and from film negatives to camera-less photography, the link between photography and science has consistently pushed the medium's boundaries, exploring new and versatile ways to develop its visual potential. The current exhibition highlights exceptional photographs that expand the medium's limits by incorporating technological advancements. These unique works, traditionally printed on paper, are now produced using the sublimated aluminum process, which enhances the impact of their photographic artistry and broadens printing capabilities within portraiture, fashion, photojournalism, and landscape photography.
Photographers are using sublimation on metal to create beautiful, luminous images. This process results in high-definition, visually stunning, archival, and fade-resistant prints. The photo printing method achieves a look akin to analog photography while adhering to new standards for image printing through innovative technology. With this technique, images can possess vivid colors and sharp definitions, liberated from the constraints of paper and the need for protective glass or acrylic.
By infusing dyes directly onto specially coated metal, artists are able to create bold, striking images with remarkable clarity and exceptional quality. The celebrated photographers featured in this exhibition leverage the immediacy of the sublimation process.
The exhibition showcases seven iconic artists and over 30 pieces of artwork, all produced using Chromaluxe Dye-Sublimation on Aluminum. Chromaluxe has sponsored this exhibition in partnership with Blazing Editions and Holden Luntz to bring this beautiful collection to life.
