At Photo LA

We are excited to announce the 21st Editions is exhibiting in Santa Monica, CA at the Photo LA Expo. 21st Editions is an art company that prints artist books for photographers. Many of their collaborations on producing books can be found in dozens of prestigious museums and special collections in libraries. Students and researchers now have access to the full 21st Editions catalogue at 2 major institutions,The National Gallery of Art and The University of Minnesota, known for their conservation and promotion of the art of the book.

We have been working alongside 21st Editions on this big major project has been along with photographer Wesley Channell with his newest works called Human Canvas. Channell collaborated with Alexis Logwood who is a body painter artist.

“Alexis and I discuss everything from body type to personality of the model when deciding who to paint and in what artistic direction she inspires us — from connections to artists we love to emotions people feel. I create the set, the lighting and the photography and do it in such a way that studio and setup create the piece, not photo-editing. I am also present from beginning to end, as Alexis paints each model, and we all communicate as we see the piece evolving. I’m always impressed that Alexis gets the particular shape of each woman every time and is able to match her uniqueness. Of course, this takes time, sometimes as long as nine hours to paint, and then we shoot for three. To me, collaboration comes through connection. From the moment I meet the model and throughout the shoot I let her know she is the most important person in the room. And in being important, I feel it is necessary to treat her with dignity and to bring her into her true self, so that after a while, she isn’t really posing but sharing herself with us.”
